Residence or Work permit application procedures for foreigners who wish to reside in Türkiye for various purposes.

Residence Permit
Residence permit is a permit given to foreigners who wish to stay in Türkiye. Foreigners who will stay in the country for more than ninety days or for the period granted by the visa or visa exemption are required to apply for the most appropriate type of residence permit for them through the online system.

Foreigners who have completed their application must attend at the provincial/district directorate of migration administration in the province where they want to live, on the appointment day determined by the system.

Foreigners who does not attend at the provincial/district directorate of migration administration on the appointment day without a valid excuse are deemed not to have made any application.

In determining the valid excuse, some information and documents may be requested by the administration. As a rule, residence permit extension applications are made in the same way.

Residence Permit Application

It is obligatory for foreigners who will stay in Türkiye for more than ninety days or the period granted by the visa or visa exemption to obtain a residence permit. These applications can be made by the foreigner in person or through the foreigner's legal representative or lawyer. However, in this regard, the administration may also request the foreigner to be attended during the application.

• You must have a passport or a passport substitute travel document for at least sixty days longer than the requested period.

3. How much money do I need in the bank to get a residence permit?

• For short-term and student residence permits, the foreigner's declaration is sufficient unless information and documents are requested by the administration, but the administration may request documents regarding income power.

• In family residence permit, the sponsor must have an income not less than one-third of the minimum wage per family member, with the total amount not being less than the minimum wage.

• If you have a long-term residence permit, you must have a sufficient and regular income.

4. In how many days can I apply for a residence permit when my visa expires?

• Applications made within ten days after the visa expires are processed.

5. When should an application be made for an extension of the current residence permit?

• Applications for extension are made after sixty days before the expiry of the residence permit and in any case before the expiry of the residence permit.

6. I have changed my residence address, what should I do?

• If the address information changes during the residence permit period, the necessary documents must be submitted to the Directorate of Migration Management and the Provincial Directorate of Population and Citizenship Affairs within twenty working days.

7. Is it possible for foreigners who have applied for a residence permit but have not received a residence permit card to go abroad?

• The application document provides multiple entry right, provided that you do not stay abroad for more than 15 days each time.

8. Visa-residence expires before the appointment date, will it cause any problem?

• Foreigners whose visa and residence permit expires before the appointment date are allowed to stay in the country with the application form until the appointment date.

9. I have violated visa, residence. Where can I pay the penalty?

• Fines can be learned at the border gates when you leave the country.

10. How long does it take to finalize residence permit applications?
• It is finalized within ninety days at the latest after the application is processed. However, applications within Istanbul take approximately 40 days.

11. Who is granted a short-term residence permit?
• Foreigners who will come for scientific research

• Foreigners who own real estate in Türkiye

• Foreigners who will establish a commercial connection or business

• Foreigners who will participate in the in-service training program

• Foreigners arriving by education or similar means within the framework of agreements or student exchange programs to which the Republic of Türkiye is a party.

• Foreigners who will stay for tourism purposes

• Foreigners who will receive treatment

• Foreigners who are required to stay in Türkiye depending on the requests or decisions of the Judicial and Administrative authorities

• Foreigners who lost their family residence permit conditions

• Foreigners who will attend Turkish learning courses

• Foreigners who will participate in education, research, internship and courses in Türkiye through public institutions

• Foreigners who have completed their higher education in Türkiye and applied within six months from the date of graduation.

• Foreigners who will invest in the scope and amount to be determined by the Council of Ministers

• Citizens of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus

12. For how long is a short-term residence permit issued?

• As a rule, short-term residence permits are issued for a maximum of two years. One-year applications are usually received for the first year.

13. Who can be granted a family residence permit?

Turkish citizens or foreigners who have one of the residence permits, refugees and subsidiary protection status holders;

• To the spouse of the foreigner (In case of having more than one spouse, only one of the spouses can be issued a family residence permit. However, all children of the foreigner can be granted a family residence permit).

• To the minor or dependent foreign child of himself or his spouse (For the family residence permit requests of the children, the consent of the mother or father who has joint custody, if any, must be obtained outside our country). Family residence permit provides the right to education up to the age of eighteen in primary and secondary education institutions without a student residence permit.

14. To whom is the student residence permit given?

• Foreigners who do not have a student residence permit and will receive primary and secondary education,

• It is given to foreigners who will receive education at the levels of associate degree, undergraduate, graduate, doctorate, specialization in medicine (TUS), specialization in dentistry (DUS) in a higher education institution in our country.

15. Who is granted a Residence Permit via Real Estate?

• If foreigners who own immovables request a residence permit, the immovable must be a residence and used for this purpose.

In addition, if family members have shared and cooperative ownership rights on the house, family members can also apply for a residence permit within this scope. Family members refer to the applicant's spouse, minor child and dependent adult child.

16. How can I show the address where I am staying in Türkiye?

• Foreigner must provide the address and contact information he/she will be residing in Türkiye accurately and completely. Address, telephone number and e-mail information must be up-to-date so that Foreigner can be contacted and their residence permit document delivered to address. If staying with a rental agreement, must attach a notarized copy of agreement in the form of arrangement to application documents.

If staying in places such as hotels or hotels, must attach the documents proving stay in these places to your application.

If staying in a student dormitory, must also attach the e-signed/signed and stamped/stamped document to application.

Foreigners who will come for yacht tourism purposes should specify the marina address where their yachts are connected with their documents. In case of staying with a 3rd person (other than relatives), notarized commitment of the person staying with him (if the person staying with him is married, also notarized commitment of his spouse) is sought.
